Painting your brick is the most complete exterior transformation you can give a home short of replacing the siding or putting on new brick and stone, and it usually costs about a third of what that kind of remodel would. Most brick paint jobs take about three days, and all of them finish inside a week. Few things we do have a more dramatic before and after. But brick painting done right takes brick-specific products and a crew that knows how to use them, because it’s also the most permanent thing we do.

Isn’t painting brick permanent?
Treat it that way. Removing paint from brick is technically possible but very difficult, so this isn’t a decision to undo. That’s exactly why we paint a sample wall first: you see the real finish on your real brick before we commit the whole house.
Will regular paint hurt the brick?
It can. Brick has to breathe, and ordinary paint traps moisture inside the masonry. We use breathable, mineral-based products made specifically for brick (Romabio Masonry Flat and Classico Limewash) so the wall keeps venting the way it was built to.
What’s it going to cost?
Painting the brick on a full exterior usually runs $6,000–$12,000. If we’re also painting the woodwork and trim, that adds to the price. You get a detailed, line-item quote on the spot, and the balance isn’t due until you’ve walked the finished job with us.
How long will it actually last?
Romabio backs Masonry Flat with a 20-year product warranty when properly applied. We’ll be straight with you: we haven’t been using it 20 years ourselves, so that’s the manufacturer’s number, not ours. But it tells you this is not ordinary paint. Our own written 5-year warranty covers the workmanship.
You Approve a Sample Wall Before We Paint the House
Because painted brick is permanent, we don’t ask you to commit from a color chip. Bring us an inspiration photo (most people have one saved) and we’ll paint and distress one wall of your house so you can see the actual finish, in your actual light, on your actual brick. Only when you give us the thumbs-up does the rest of the house get painted.
Painted Brick vs. Limewash: Which Look Do You Want?
Romabio’s Masonry Flat and Classico Limewash are similar mineral-based, breathable products. The real difference is the look. When homeowners say “limewash,” what they usually mean is they don’t want solid coverage; they want some form of a distressed, weathered finish where the brick still shows through. There’s no right or wrong answer; it’s purely an aesthetic choice, and there’s a huge variety of looks we can achieve depending on the distressing method.

Why Brick Paint Has to Breathe
“(Paint) should be porous if applied on exterior masonry, thereby permitting the wall to breathe and preventing the trapping of free moisture behind the paint film.” — Brick Industry Association, Painting Brick Masonry
Unpainted brick is naturally porous: moisture that gets into the wall evaporates back out. Seal it under ordinary non-porous paint and that moisture is trapped inside the masonry, where it damages the brick over time. That’s how you end up with the flaking, peeling painted brick that gives this whole idea a bad name. Mineral paints like Romabio Masonry Flat stay breathable, bond to the masonry rather than filming over it, won’t peel or flake like traditional paint, and don’t require primer on unpainted brick, which saves labor and saves you money.
